A hypontic synthesiser part, thunderous drumming, infectious guitar work, and soaring vocals drive the latest single offering – Blondie – from hotly-tipped Wellington pop rock quartet Supermodel. In Blondie, Supermodel’s anthemic rock ambitions are clear and unique potential underlined, with a stylistic departure from their previous releases.

Blondie is the tangled and frustrated love story of an infatuated fall-back guy. ‘Blondie’ explores a situation far too familiar to us all and as a result, makes for an instantly engaging listen.

Recorded at Modern World Studios in the UK by respected Welsh producer Greg Haver, ‘Blondie’ is a first look into the sound of Supermodel’s debut album, scheduled for release early 2011.

With the release of Send Me Dreaming (and its accompanying music video), Wellington quartet Supermodel build on the success of their last single Walk of Shame, reiterating their status as one of New Zealands leading new melodic rock groups.
Creatively mining the rich traditions of Brit Pop and Indie Rock – on Send Me Dreaming (mastered at Sterling Sound, NYC) Supermodel juxtapose lead-songwriter Mark Hanifys clear-voiced conversational lyrics and minimal-yet-expansive guitar work with full-bodied bass, vibrant anthemic drum work and delicately accentuated backing vocals and keys.
Accompanied by a music video directed and produced by Ivan Slavov of The Independent Film Company of New Zealand, Send Me Dreaming represents a key turning point in the development of a band, who having well and truly paid their dues, are more than ready to take things to the next level.
Working alongside his sister Rose (keyboards, vocals), Tony Kemp (drums, backing vocals) and Michael White (bass, backing vocals), Hanify arranges and directs a stadium sized sound. A sound where harmony, melody and rhythmic drive play equal bedfellows to the sort of witty and humorous lyrical content that can only come from real life. Truth is stranger than fiction and sillier.
Having spent Summer performing to crowds across New Zealand, this June Supermodel will head to the UK to record their debut album with respected Welsh producer Greg Haver (Opshop, Manic Street Preachers etc). And with the B.Net, KiwiFM, JuiceTV and a countrywide fan base backing their previous efforts and a national tour planned for May the best is yet to come.
